The ego hates to admit when it’s wrong, traditionally speaking (hehe). I would challenge you on the belief in punishment for past actions. While I’m not judging that belief, I would say it is a bit distorted because it’s based on the idea that lifetimes are linear in nature and occur one after another. In truth, all of your past, present, and future “selves” exist simultaneously.

Let me explain. You, in this present moment, have a dominant personality—a personality that exhibits primary control over the ego construct individual to you. In another lifetime, this personality may have been a secondary or tertiary personality. At different points along the way, different personalities manifest various qualities, with the allowance of the ego, of course. All of your lifetimes bleed into each other.
