When it comes to nonphysical personalities, they do not have a gender; they are energy and energy is action. This flow of energy can be perceived as masculine, feminine, or androgynous. A spirit can manifest as male or female at their native vibratory level with minimal effort.

When incarnating, the preference for one gender over another is individual and involves a desire to experience a specific range of thoughts, feelings, and emotions unique to that gender. What can—and often does—happen is that a spirit seeking a masculine experience on Earth may choose the male gender, and then the balance of energies within that soul can shift towards a more feminine essence. This shift can manifest as a homosexual experience, as the spirit seeks to explore different aspects of its gender identity. Spirits are always in a state of flux.

A personality might feel that a feminine gender role would allow it to express itself more fully or that embodying the feminine gender would add a different dynamic to a series of incarnations that were previously male. Furthermore, a spirit could choose a gender to help another spirit in its soul group gain a unique set of experiences, such as a spirit opting to play a female role as a wife or daughter to a personality that has chosen a masculine role, and vice versa.

There is a wide variety of reasons why a spirit would choose to embody one gender or another. However, the true essence of spirit is not male, female, or androgynous. These are merely labels used to describe the expressions of various nonphysical personalities.
