The crime scene photographer took the photo shortly after the accident right after the body was removed from the wreck. A bunch of photos were taken but this is the only one that contained a picture of the etheric body of the deceased. 

The photographer says the photo is unedited and does replicate the young man who passed away. When the teen was found at the wreck his face was in the same position as the etheric double. It happened 36 years ago or so, but if you do some internet hunting you might be able to pull up more info. Crime scene photographers are usually pretty reliable because they deal with courts, police, coroners, etc.
