"How can I figure out what I’ll be in my next incarnation?"

Everything is happening in the now, my friend. You are just one of many incarnations at this present moment.
[During your dream state, you can get glimpses of other incarnations, so pay attention to that as well.]
Your higher self is in a perpetual state of becoming. There can be multiple incarnations on Earth and elsewhere. When you “die,” you gain more awareness of who and what you are becoming. You don’t become all-knowing, but your understanding does increase.
Why does understanding increase after death? The veil that’s in place to create a more immersive experience. Your particular ego construct has less impact on your consciousness after you physically die. The ego still influences your personality, but to a lesser extent. Even when you die and enter the between-incarnation state, this ego still has influence. This is why, when people have near-death experiences, they often see figures like Jesus or Mary; their ego + human belief systems remain in place.
The ego exists within all near-death experiences (NDEs), out-of-body experiences (OOBEs), and lucid dreams. It also exists within the personality immediately after death. The ego is automatically adopted once your inner personality, which resides within an inner nonphysical reality, decides to manifest itself into your reality of matter and three dimensions. Thus, the ego remains integrated into your operating system until you completely exit your vibrational level and have no further use for it.
You feel the effects of the ego in waking consciousness, in the dream state, and in the between-incarnation state. To move through this ego construct , you must alter your consciousness further—something that rookies and novices often choose not to do, for some reason. It’s not impossible, but… how can I say this… (trying to channel the word)… (pause)
[Just going to end that there.]
It is in this between-incarnation state that decisions are made about what you will be in your next incarnation. These decisions are made from a place of unconditional love and desire, but not all-knowing. Chances are you will choose to reincarnate on Earth again or explore various probabilistic realities that exist based on decisions you’ve made in other incarnations (what could have happened but didn’t—alternate consequences of the choices you’ve made). Incarnating into probabilistic realities is like “fine-tuning” your evolutionary journey.
What you’ll be in your next incarnation depends on many factors: attachments to this life, attachments to other incarnations, regrets you may feel after your life review, relationships with others in your soul group… there are many variables, and it’s impossible to predict with absolute certainty. One thing to remember is that you can’t fail; there is no “wrong” choice to make. Hidden variables within incarnations exist, as the planning phase isn’t 100% perfect—that would negate free will. So, an element of surprise exists now and then, but you cannot fail as in an incarnation being an absolute failure or a waste of “time,” so to speak.
